Voëlklip
Voëlklip is a picturesque suburb in the seaside town of Hermanus, Western Cape, about 120 km drive out of Cape Town with the nearest airport, Cape Town International Airport, located 110km from Voëlklip. It is roughly 3.5km from the Hermanus centre, in fact, a stroll along the coast-hugging, scenic cliff path will have you there in no time!
Fun Fact: The hyrax (rock rabbit) commonly seen along the Hermanus cliff path is the elephant’s closest living relative.
The sought-after Voëlklip suburb lies between the mountain and the sea and boasts with its own small sandy beach with a swathe of grass embankment for civilised sun tanning and picnicking without getting covered in sand. The beach is also popular for surfing. Property on offer is all within a short distance of this beach as well as the Blue Flag Grotto beach.
Hermanus is renowned throughout the world for being the greatest land-based destination for whale viewing. At most times of the year there is an opportunity to spot resident Bryde’s Whales in the bay, however, during the calving and mating period (June to November) Southern Right and Humpback Whales are prevalent and tend to swim close to shore. Voëlklip Beach is the perfect whale spotting location, pull up a chair and have your camera ready!

Things to do in Hermanus
The Fernkloof Nature Reserve encompassing the mountain slopes overlooking Voëlklip Beach is a haven for hikers and nature lovers because of its vast numbers of Fynbos plant species and abundant birdlife.
Visit Hermanus Town centre and wander through the craft markets, lounge at one of the many open-air café’s along the main plaza, visit the old harbour museum and stroll further up the 12km cliff path for stunning ocean views and glimpses of whales in the bay.
The Cape Whale Coast offers no less than four wine routes where some of South Africa’s premier wineries are located. All four wine routes are within proximity to Hermanus.
